Osprey Solent Group is a reputable organisation dedicated to providing exceptional health and safety services. Due to our continued growth and success we are currently seeking a qualified and experienced Health and Safety SSIP Assessor to join our team. As a Health and Safety SSIP (Safety Schemes in Procurement) Assessor, you will play a crucial role in evaluating and assessing the health and safety standards of suppliers and contractors seeking to hold accreditation under the SSIP scheme.
As an assessor you will be dealing with customers by telephone and email. You will undertake assessments of companies’ management systems to ensure they meet the requirement of the SSIP Core criteria.

You will ensure specific product service level agreements are maintained and ensure that capacity/team capability issues are flagged in a steadfast manner.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of potential suppliers and contractors to determine their compliance with relevant health and safety standards and regulations.
- Review submitted documentation, such as policies, risk assessments, and method statements, to ensure they align with industry best practices and legal requirements.
- Assess supplier and contractor performance in safety management systems, identifying areas for improvement and offering constructive feedback.
- Collaborate with internal teams to review health and safety documentation, ensuring the organisation’s compliance with SSIP Core standards.
- Maintain accurate records of assessments, findings, and recommendations, ensuring confidentiality and data security.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and contractors, providing guidance and support to help them achieve SSIP accreditation.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest health and safety regulations and industry trends to ensure assessments remain current and relevant.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, contributing to the enhancement of Osprey Solent’s health and safety practices.
- Communicate assessment results effectively to both internal stakeholders and external suppliers or contractors.
- Attend relevant training and professional development opportunities to enhance expertise in SSIP assessment methodologies.
- Liaise with the Director on any issues arising.
- Liaise with other department managers on queries
- Input into the development of the new product opportunities.
- Provide assistance into the development of internal processes.
The Person
We’re looking for an individual who works well both independently and as part of a team to provide high end support in the reviewing of SSIP Assessments for our clients.
Key qualifications include:
- NEBOSH General Certificate, NEBOSH Construction Certificate or equivalent qualification
- Safety Schemes in Procurement (SSIP) Assessor
- Proven experience in conducting health and safety assessments, preferably with experience in SSIP assessments or similar schemes.
- Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation, regulations, and best practices.
- Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills to assess documentation and identify areas for improvement.
- Effective communication and interpersonal abilities to engage with stakeholders and provide clear feedback and guidance.
- Organisational skills with attention to detail to maintain accurate records and manage multiple assessments simultaneously.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating a proactive and collaborative approach.
- Prior experience working in the construction or related industries is beneficial.
