What is ISO 45001?

ISO 45001:2018 is the international standard for Occupational Health and Safety. The previous standard used across the UK was known as OHSAS 18001, the International Standards Organisation recognised the importance of Occupational Health and Safety globally and the ISO 45001 standard was developed so that it is easier to adapt/integrate into existing procedures and other ISO Standards.

Designed for any type of organisation, regardless of its size, activity or sector. This standard is more applicable to those dealing with main contractors or public sectors that want to ensure compliance to legislation. It can also be appealing to companies looking to reduce their workers insurance premium and improve workers performance. It usually takes 6-8 months from start to finish to be certified to ISO 45001.

How can ISO 45001 benefit your organisation?

Implementing ISO 45001 in your organisation can bring about significant benefits by establishing a robust framework for occupational health and safety management. This international standard offers a systematic approach to identify, assess, and control risks, fostering a safer workplace environment. The advantages of ISO 45001 extend beyond mere compliance with health and safety regulations; they encompass improved workplace safety, a reduction in incidents and associated costs, enhanced organisational reputation, and increased employee engagement. The standard’s emphasis on continual improvement encourages a proactive stance towards risk management, leading to long-term efficiency gains and a positive impact on the organisation’s overall performance. Furthermore, ISO 45001 certification provides international recognition, positioning your organisation as one committed to prioritising the health and safety of its workforce, which can prove invaluable in today’s global business landscape.
